Composite Bat Moratorium Update

Little League extends its ban on composite bats to the Little League (Majors) level. For a list of approved composite bats for Little League (Majors) division.

For a list of approved composite bats for Junior, Senior and Big League Baseball divisions of Little League. 

Babe Ruth League updated on 2/4/11. The 13-15 and 16-18 divisions will now follow the NFHS.

Metro Baseball League also follows the NFHS.

Composite Bat Moratorium

 Little League has put a moratorium on composite bats in all divisions as of Dec. 30 2010. This decision was made based on research by the University of Massachusetts that found composite bats can exceed the maximum performance standard after using it for a while. Metro Baseball League in Minnesota has made no change for 10U- 14U, although I have heard they plan to change for the 2012 season. 15U will follow the standards of the National Federation of State High School Association for the 2011 season. The NFHS has banned composite bats until they meet the BBCOR performance standard. Bats with composite handles and tapers will continue to be legal. For more info follow NFHS Standards

Here are the NFHS Approved Composite Bats

USSSA Has no ban on composite bats. They believe with bigger fields, stricter penalties and new rules for manufacturers a ban is not needed or fair. They are also working on making a compression testing machine available for ball parks and players for under $500. They also point out that anyone concerned is allowed to use any available protective gear. For more USSSA Announcements

Cal Ripken Baseball currently has no bans on composite bats for Major, Minor, Rookie, or T Ball divisions.

HBB has no ban on composite bats as of now.
